Story Telling Day

Story Telling Day

On 20th October we had Jumana Moon, a professional storyteller come and share some stories with us. She performed a dramatic rendition of two traditional tales with a moral; “The King has Donkey’s Ears” and “The King and the Seven Thieves”. The children were bought into the stories and the discussion – and they were entranced. The children then broke into small groups. Each group had a set of props and a facilitator. They explored their own telling of the stories highlighting different aspects, modernising them and changing them as they wished. The performed their pieces back to the whole group. The day ended with a very special story from Jumana about the birth of Rasulullah and his early years in the desert. The children learnt that stories are a powerful way to transmit learning – and that everyone has the ability to tell their story. We hope they will make use of this exploration to transmit their own narratives as they grow.
